Juanes was born in Medellín, Colombia (August 9th, 1972), named as Juan Esteban Aristizábal Vásquez. He is the youngest child of Alicia Vásquez and Javier Aristizábal. His father called him "Juanes", a contraction of "Juan" and "Esteban", which he later used as an alias. In 2000, Juanes released his solo debut , produced by Gustavo Santaolalla. The album fared well in Colombia, spending ten weeks at the number one position. He got three Latin Grammys for Best New Artist, Best Rock Solo Vocal Album, and Best Rock Song.
